Red North Reading

“Only three things are true –
The Sun in its cycle will rise in the east and set in the west as our Earth is held by its grips.
The Moon in its cycle will rise in the east and set in the west in its stages of eclipse.
The Red North needle of the Compass will point to Polaris to give us direction and a moment of bliss.
– Everything else is conjecture, lies and quips”

I need a Red North reading. Compass, my trusted friend,
point the Red Needle toward the large latitudes of cold countries.
I trust the Red North needle and no other heeding or heading.
Red North assures me I am returning in the direction of my race and complexion.
Because you, Compass, my dear friend, you are the seer and know
That I must defend myself from those who accuse me of defection.

They say I prefer the temperance and temptations of the tropics
and have put aside my atavistic influences and tendencies.
Even though I get tired of the torpor of the climate,
the hot-lands have given me affection for dark rum and dark skin
but this doesn’t mean I don’t love my country and kin.
Because you dear friend understand my travels have imposed a mental tax
and everywhere for me is now no-man’s land.

But when I return North, don’t return me to the boring world of business.
I was the fair-haired boy with so much promise
who is now the spy that despises the system.
The acrophobia from climbing the corporate ladder finally got to me.
I got tired of covering my ass and making the other guy look bad.

I became disgusted by the Very Important Egos
and the greed-head wiccans who no longer impress me.
I am now the traitor to the corporate cause
and can no longer kow–tow to the corporate logo.
I became bored with the bourgeois business of the boss,
so don’t take me back there.
I simply could no longer focus on the bogus hocus pocus of the corporate world.

And please don’t take me back to the preachers and politicians on the take,
Because I know it is always these hypocrites of doctrine on the make.
The preachers and politicians and those that attend them,
they are the ones I condemn.
I no longer abide their rants and raves regarding morality and justice
because deep down I know they think they are better than us.
I despise their false knowing of God and claiming of insights to his plan,
think they know God and are the caste of the aristocratic clan.

When I return, don’t return me to the cold conceited academic world,
Because you see, I have no use for these academics.
I have no use for these posing as poets.
I have no use for these posy poets and philosophizers.
Most are liberal arts professors,
living detached and contemplative in the suburbs.

I have no use for these posing as poets so don’t return me there.
They teach Creative Writing, think they have lived and are living.
I have no use for these pathetic poets.
They haven’t baited the hook for the Devil,
haven’t seen the Whale of Life
come out of the depths and swallow them whole.
